There’s something magical about celebrating love in a new and breathtaking destination. My partner and I have made it a tradition to mark our anniversaries with a special trip, and each year, we try to find a place that feels uniquely romantic, away from the usual tourist spots. Whether you’re celebrating your first year or your fiftieth, here are some incredible anniversary getaways in the UK that made our list of favorites.

To help you plan your own romantic escape, I’m sharing the hotels we stayed in, the restaurants we loved, and some of our favourite things to do in each destination. From cosy countryside retreats to memorable dining experiences and picturesque walks, these are the places that helped make our anniversary trips so special.

1. The Cotswolds – A Romantic Countryside Escape

The Cotswolds is the perfect destination for couples looking for peace and charm. With its rolling hills, quaint villages, and cozy cottages, it’s like stepping into a fairytale.

For our anniversary stay, we chose the Bibury Swan Hotel and stayed in the Whopper Cottage with its private hot tub. Nestled in the heart of one of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds, it felt like something straight out of a fairytale. Cosy, peaceful and incredibly romantic, it was the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.

Don’t miss Arlington Row one of the most photographed streets in England and the perfect spot for capturing beautiful Cotswold photos – just a short walk from the Bibury Swan Hotel – a postcard-perfect location.

We loved dining at Eleven Bibury Ltd, a charming spot serving delicious food in the heart of the village. For a relaxed lunch or coffee stop, The Twig is also worth a visit.

2. Edinburgh, Scotland – History and Romance Combined

Edinburgh is a city filled with charm, history, and romance. My partner and I spent our anniversary exploring Edinburgh Castle, walking along the Royal Mile, and watching the sunset from Calton Hill.

For our stay in Edinburgh, we chose Hotel Indigo Edinburgh – Princes Street. Its central location made exploring the city incredibly easy, with many of Edinburgh’s main attractions, restaurants, and shops just a short walk away. Comfortable, convenient, and right in the heart of the city, it was the perfect base for our anniversary getaway.

For a truly special meal, we booked a table at The Witchery by the Castle. With its candlelit interiors, historic charm, and romantic atmosphere, it felt like one of the most magical dining experiences in Edinburgh and was the perfect setting for an anniversary celebration.

3. Lake District – A Breathtaking Retreat

There’s something incredibly romantic about waking up to the view of a serene lake. Whether you prefer hiking, boating, or cozying up in a lakeside pub, this destination has it all.

For our Lake District getaway, we stayed at Lakes Hotel & Spa, and it was the perfect choice for a romantic escape. The hotel is beautifully designed, with a luxurious yet relaxing atmosphere, and one of our favourite features was the private balcony hot tub. Soaking in the hot tub while taking in the surroundings made our stay feel extra special and unforgettable.

We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at the restaurant in Lakes Hotel & Spa. The elegant setting, delicious food, and relaxed atmosphere made it feel like a truly special occasion and the perfect way to celebrate our time in the Lake District.

4. Cornwall – Coastal Romance at Its Best

Cornwall is the UK’s answer to the Amalfi Coast, with its golden beaches, dramatic cliffs, and picturesque fishing villages. We spent our anniversary exploring St Ives, enjoying fresh seafood in Padstow, and watching the sunset at Land’s End. For a charming stay by the sea, we stayed at Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa and loved its stunning location overlooking Fistral Beach. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and offered beautiful sea views, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing and romantic coastal getaway.

If you’re looking for a special meal in Newquay, I highly recommend The Fish House Fistral. Known for its fresh seafood and relaxed coastal atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a memorable dinner just moments from the beach. Also don’t miss Fern Pit Café & Ferry is a little piece of heaven. With beautiful estuary views and a peaceful atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot to relax and soak up the Cornish charm.

5. Isle of Skye, Scotland – A Wild and Romantic Adventure

If you and your partner love adventure, the Isle of Skye is an unforgettable choice. We hiked to the Fairy Pools, drove through the Quiraing, and explored medieval castles.

We stayed at Cuillin Hills Hotel and couldn’t have asked for a better base for exploring Skye. The views over Portree Harbour were absolutely stunning, and the peaceful setting made it feel like a real escape from everyday life.

We had a wonderful meal at Scorrybreac Restaurant. With fantastic local ingredients, beautiful views, and a cosy atmosphere, it was the perfect spot for a special dinner on Skye.

6. Bath – A Timeless Romantic Getaway

Bath is one of the most romantic cities in the UK, known for its stunning Georgian architecture, relaxing thermal baths, and charming streets. My partner and I indulged in a spa day at the Thermae Bath Spa and stayed at a historical hotel at Hampton by Hilton Bath City and found it to be an excellent base for exploring Bath. It has comfortable rooms in a central location, making it easy to walk to Thermae Bath Spa, the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and the city centre’s shops and restaurants. Its convenient location made getting around Bath simple and enjoyable throughout our stay.

We celebrated our anniversary at The Sepoy Club in Bath and absolutely loved it. The food was exceptional, and the standout dish was their Yellow Tadka Dal—still the best lentil dish I’ve ever tasted. The warm atmosphere, attentive service, and delicious flavors made it a memorable dining experience. If you’re visiting Bath and enjoy Indian cuisine, this restaurant is definitely worth a try.

7. Snowdonia, Wales – A Cozy Mountain Escape

For couples who love nature and adventure, Snowdonia is a dream. We climbed Snowdon, took a scenic steam train ride and stayed in Aberdunant Hall, Snowdonia. The mountain views and quiet surroundings made for a truly special anniversary trip.

8. Stratford-upon-Avon – Shakespearean Romance

Celebrate your love in the birthplace of Shakespeare! My partner and I had a theatre-filled weekend, watching plays at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and wandering through picturesque Tudor streets.

If you’re looking for a romantic nice hotel, we stayed at The White Swan Hotel during our visit to Stratford-upon-Avon, and it was one of those places that added something special to the trip. We loved the historic charm of the building, while the rooms were comfortable and beautifully maintained. Being right in the heart of town meant we could wander to the main attractions, restaurants, and riverside walks with ease. After a day of exploring, it was the perfect place to return to and relax, and we would happily stay there again.

Loxley’s Restaurant was perfect for a special meal or you can also pop in for a drink. The Cotswold lamb is a must try!

9. York – A Historic and Enchanting Escape

York is one of the most beautiful cities in England, with its medieval streets, ancient city walls, and cozy tearooms. We spent our anniversary here exploring York Minster, walking along the Shambles, and enjoying a romantic river cruise.

We stayed at Hotel Indigo York and really enjoyed the experience. The hotel felt stylish and welcoming, with comfortable rooms and thoughtful local touches throughout. Its convenient location made it easy to explore York’s historic centre on foot, while still offering a quiet and relaxing place to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

We decided to dine at The Ivy York and it turned out to be a wonderful choice. The elegant setting, attentive service, and beautifully presented food made the meal feel like a special occasion. It was the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring York, and one of the dining experiences we remember most from our trip.

10. The Scottish Highlands – A Dramatic and Remote Getaway

For a truly unique anniversary trip, the Scottish Highlands offer rugged beauty and tranquility. One of our favourite stays in the Scottish Highlands was Highland Cabin – Relaxing Hot Tub found it on booking.com. From the moment we arrived, it felt like the perfect place to switch off and enjoy the surroundings. We spent our evenings relaxing in the hot tub, taking in the peaceful Highland views, and it was exactly the kind of cosy getaway we were hoping for. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet, comfortable, and surrounded by nature, this place is well worth booking.
